Cloud Discovery & Visibility 26.1+ applies Address Manager tags to resources in two scenarios:
  • When a resource is initially discovered

    • When a discovery or visibility job discovers a new resource in the cloud, the resource is automatically created in Address Manager (if not dropped due to conflict or exclusion). When creating the resource in Address Manager, CDV applies all platform specific tags to the resource according to the following hierarchy:

      • CD&V (Tag group)
        • AWS (Tag)
          • AWS region name (Tag)
            • AWS account ID (Tag)
        • Azure (Tag)
          • Subscription name (Tag)
            • Resource Group name (Tag)
        • GCP (Tag)
          • GCP Project name (Tag)
    Note: Example: A resource found in AWS will be tagged three Address Manager tags - AWS, the AWS region name, and the AWS account ID. These tags will be found in the CD&V tag group.

    In previous versions of CDV, only discovered block, network, and device resources were tagged, and these resources were tagged with the lowest tag of the hierarchy only. CDV 26.1 expands the range of tagged resources to include IP addresses, views, zones, and resource records. Additionally, resources discovered by CDV 26.1 are now tagged with all tags in the hierarchy. CDV 26.1 tags additional cloud resources (IP addresses, views, zones, and resource records) by default. This new tagging behaviour can be disabled using the Tag additional cloud resources panel on the Settings tab. For more information, refer to Configuring additional tagged resources.

    Note: The new tagging behaviour in CDV 26.1 is applied only to newly discovered resources. It is not applied to resources that were previously discovered and already imported into Address Manager.
  • When a resource is found to be missing
    • When a discovery or visibility job finds that a view or zone in Address Manager is no longer in the cloud, if the Remove deleted resources Discovery option is enabled, an Address Manager tag is applied to the resource under the CDV Deleted Resources tag group (tag will depend on platform and resource type). Once this tag has been applied, the resource will appear on the CDV Tagged resources page. The Tagged resources page that displays all Address Manager views, zones, and configurations tagged for deletion and allows users to filter and delete these resources in bulk from one central location.
      Warning: When the Remove deleted resources Discovery option is enabled, other resource types that are no longer present in the cloud are automatically deleted rather than being tagged.
