You can add an alias (CNAME) record for a zone from the Resource records tab within the top-level DNS zone or sub-zones, or you can add the alias record using the Add alias records option in the name menu (that is in the Details page) of a host or alias record. Address Manager supports dotted alias names. You can add alias records with dot (.) in their names. A dotted alias name should contain no more than ten dots.

Adding an alias (CNAME) record from the Resource Records tab within DNS zones

To add a CNAME record:

  1. Select the DNS tab in the sidebar, then select Views.
  2. Navigate to the level (DNS zone or DNS sub-zone) where you want to add an alias record.
  3. Select the Resource records tab.
  4. Select New > Alias record (CNAME).
  5. Under General, configure the following parameters:
    • Name—enter the name for the alias record.
    • Host—In the text field, type the name of a host record. As you type, a list of host records matching your text appears. Select a name from the list. To specify an external host, enter the name of the host and select the External host checkbox.
    • Override TTL—to change the time-to-live value for the record, select this checkbox and enter a value in the TTL field that is displayed. Select a unit of time from the drop-down menu.
  6. Under Additional info, enter notes describing the resource record in the Comment field, if required.
  7. In the Change control section, add comments if required.
  8. Select Create to create the alias record and return to the Resource records tab, or select Create and add another to create the alias record and re-open the Create alias record window.
