Break replication when you want to remove database replication from your servers and return the Primary or Standby server to stand-alone operation. Each Standby server becomes a Removed Standby server, retaining the information that was replicated until the break was performed.

Note:
  • You must be an Address Manager administrator to break database replication.
  • Breaking database replication turns the Standby servers into Removed Standby servers. You must reset replication on the Removed Standby servers to return them to Standalone servers. For more information, refer to Resetting database replication.
  • To break replication, the Primary database must be online. If the Primary server is offline, the Primary database is not available, so you cannot log in to the Address Manager web interface on the Standby servers.

If the Primary server is not online, use the reset replication Administration Console command on the Standby server or servers. For more information, refer to Resetting database replication.

To break database replication:

  1. Select the Administration tab. Tabs remember the page on which you last worked, so select the Administration tab again to ensure you are working on the Administration page.
  2. Under Data Management, click Database Management. The Database Management page opens.
  3. Click Database Replication. The Database Replication page opens.
  4. Click the Database Replication menu and select Break. The Database Replication Break Confirmation page opens.
  5. Click Confirm. The Response page opens.
Once confirmed, the database replication break initiates and the database replication status changes to "Break is in progress".
Note: After breaking replication, BlueCat recommends performing a full deployment to all managed DNS/DHCP Servers.
