If you break an xHA pair that belongs to a server group, the resultant standalone servers might be linked to a server group or none.

Once you break an xHA pair, the Active node in an xHA pair will remain linked with the server group to which the xHA pair belongs. The Passive node is linked to the server group to which it belonged to at the time of xHA creation. If the Passive node wasn't linked to a server group when creating xHA, the Passive node won't be linked to a server group after you break the xHA pair.

Example 1 - Breaking xHA pairs where the Passive node belonged to a server group at the time of xHA creation

You have two DNS/DHCP Servers: Server 1 and Server 2 — Server 1 is linked to server group A and Server 2 is linked to server group B. You create an xHA pair with Server 1 and Server 2 where Server 1 is the Active node and Server 2 is the Passive node. The resultant xHA pair will be linked to server group A, as the Active node (Server1) was linked to server group A before the xHA pair was created. The Passive node (Server 2) is hidden from the list of servers in server group B.

When you break the xHA pair, the Active node (Server 1) will continue to be linked to server group A while the Passive node (Server 2) will be linked to server group B after the xHA pair is broken.

Example 2 - Breaking xHA pairs where the Passive node didn't belong to a server group at the time of xHA creation

You have two DNS/DHCP Servers: Server 1 and Server 2 — Server 1 is linked to server group A. You create an xHA pair with Server 1 and Server 2 where Server 1 is the Active node and Server 2 is the Passive node. The resultant xHA pair will be linked to server group A, as the Active node (Server 1) was linked to server group A before the xHA pair was created.

When you break the xHA pair, the Active node (Server 1) will continue to be linked to server group A while the Passive node (Server 2) won't be linked to a server group after the xHA pair is broken.

Example 3 - Breaking xHA pairs where the xHA pair has moved to a new server group

The xHA pair is then moved to a different server group - server group C.

When you break the xHA pair, the Active node (Server 1) will continue to be linked to server group C while the Passive node (Server 2) will be linked to server group B after the xHA pair is broken.
