You initially create a new discovery with real-time updates (also known as Visibility) from the Discovery page. The discovery with real-time updates then appear on the Visibility page as a visibility manager that contains a set of related visibility jobs. Visibility is distinct from discovery in that visibility jobs continuously monitor a network infrastructure for changes to network resources, then updates those changes immediately (in real-time) in Address Manager.
To create a new Discovery:
-
If you haven't already done so, open the Create new discovery window. In Cloud Discovery & Visibility, click the Discovery tab, then click Create discovery.
-
Select the platform of the network that you want to discover (Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure), then click Next.
-
Select whether you want to use Basic setup or Advanced setup, then click Next.
Use Basic setup to let CDV specify default parameters for the discovery or visibility job. Use Advanced setup if you want to specify the discovery and visibility details yourself.
Note: For a full list of options that are included and not included (that is, not enabled) during Basic setup, see the following topics:- For Amazon Web Services: AWS Discovery options during Basic setup
- For Google Cloud Platform: GCP Discovery options during Basic setup
- For Microsoft Azure: Azure Basic setup Discovery options
-
In the Create new discovery window, fill in the credentials, Address Manager Configuration, and Discovery option details for the new job.
The specific details vary depending on the network platform. Typically, you must configure credentials for the account that CDV is to use during discovery; details of the desired discovery (when using Advanced Setup); and configuration options specific to the platform.
For more details on the settings in each tab, see the following topics:
Amazon Web Services:

AWS credentials (required)

Google Cloud Platform:

-
Discovery options (Advanced setup only)
-
Microsoft Azure:

Within the Monitoring options tab, select Real time updates, then fill in the rest of the options as needed.
Doing so specifies that you will be creating a Visibility manager with a set of visibility jobs that continuously monitor a network infrastructure and update Address Manager with changes to its resources.
Note: Selecting Scheduled updates instead creates a discovery that either runs once, or that is fully re-run at a specified interval. For more details, see Creating a discovery (Schedule manager and discovery jobs). The specific options depend on the network infrastructure platform being discovered. For more details, see:
- After configuring discovery settings, you have the option to create the discovery
with or without a pre-flight check. A pre-flight check validates the permissions of
the configured service keys before running the discovery, allowing users to monitor
and verify whether the provided keys have the sufficient permissions to perform
discovery across cloud services. Select one of the following options:
- Create and run pre-flight check (recommended)—select this option to create the discovery and run the pre-flight check. If the pre-flight check is successful, CDV will proceed and run the discovery job. If the pre-flight check is not successful, the discovery job will be stopped and marked with a Status indicating issues with the pre-flight check. From there, you can edit the discovery settings and re-run the pre-flight check, or run the job immediately with no check. For more information on the pre-flight check process, refer to Performing a pre-flight check.
- Create—select this option to create the discovery and run the discovery job immediately without performing the pre-flight check.
