Use external hosts to link resource records on hosts that aren't managed by Address Manager.

External Hosts are hosts outside of your managed network. Use external hosts to link resource records on hosts that aren't managed by Address Manager. If a view contains references to entities completely outside of the IP space managed by Address Manager, they're defined here. External hosts aren't deployed to your managed servers. External hosts can be created from the External Hosts tab of a DNS view, or from the External Hosts tab of a zone template created at the configuration level.
Note: CNAME records added to zone templates created at the view level can only be linked to external hosts added from the External Hosts tab for that view. CNAME records added to zone templates created at the configuration level can only be linked to external hosts added from the External Hosts tab of the configuration level zone template.

To create an external host:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • If creating an external host at the view level:
      1. Select the DNS tab in the sidebar, then select Views.
      2. Select the name of a view from the Views table or DNS tree.
    • If adding an external host to a configuration-level zone template:
      1. Select the DNS tab in the sidebar, then select Zone templates.
      2. Select the name of a zone template from the Zone templates table.
  2. Select the External hosts tab.
  3. Select New.
  4. Under General, enter the fully qualified domain name for the external host in the Name field.
  5. Under Additional info, enter comments to describe the external host in the Comment field, if required.
  6. In the Change control section, add comments if required.
  7. Select Create to create the external host and return to the External hosts tab, or select Create and add another to create the external host and re-open the Create external host window.
