Create a zone template at the configuration level if you wish to maintain a set of DNS resource record templates for the entire system regardless of DNS views.
If you have multiple DNS views and wish to set the same DNS resource records and options to all zones within the various DNS views, create a global zone template at the configuration level and use it when creating a zone in the different DNS views. Any settings which need to be duplicated across several zones, such as mail servers, web servers, and resource records, can be set up in a template to ensure accuracy and consistency.
To create a zone template:
-
Do one of the following:
- If you are creating a global zone template in the configuration level:
- Select the DNS tab in the sidebar, then select Zone templates.
- Select New.
- If you are creating a zone template in the view level:
- Select the DNS tab in the sidebar, then select Views.
- Select the name of a view in the Views table or DNS tree.
- Select the Zone templates tab.
- Select New.
- If you are creating a global zone template in the configuration level:
- Under General, enter a descriptive name for the template in the Name field. When creating zone templates at the view level, don't enter a name more than 63 characters in length. Doing so will prevent you from adding a resource record to the zone template.
- In the Change control section, add comments if required.
- Select Create to create the zone template and return to the Zone templates table, or select Create and add another to create the zone template and re-open the Create zone template window.
After creating the zone template, you can define resource records and deployment options in the template.
