Each visualization map is color-coded with different color schemes. By looking at the density of the color for blocks and networks, you can identify which networks or dates were busy or not busy (depending on the type of tree map). This visual representation of your network database will allow you to explore and identify any potential issues easily.
- visual representation of the distribution of DHCP leases on a daily basis.
- visual representation of the distribution of device types on a daily basis.
- visual representation of the distribution of historical DHCP leases over multiple years. Depending on the data currently in your database, up to a maximum of five years of DHCP lease data will be displayed.
Identifying the busiest time for DHCP leases
DHCP Heat Map provides monthly, weekly, daily, and hourly views of DHCP leases. You can select a day that had a high DHCP lease count and review the distribution of DHCP leases throughout the day to identify the busiest time. The network team can use this information to further investigate what caused such high data usage for a particular day or week. Notice that in the following DHCP Heat map, certain days were busier than usual and the peak time of the day selected for the leases is between 1PM and 5 PM.
Identifying the most common device receiving DHCP leases
You can select a given week or day with various DHCP lease counts and review the distribution of devices that received DHCP leases throughout, identifying the most common device and seeing how the distribution changes on different days. This information can be used to identify client devices connected to your network on a particular day and time, and the device distribution changes. Notice that in the following example, the most common device that received DHCP leases in the selected day is the Android device.
Identifying predictable patterns and behaviors
With five years of DHCP lease data in a calendar format, you can easily compare patterns and behavior and identify if there are predictable activities that can help the network team better understand the behaviors of the users in your organization. For example, you can investigate consecutive Fridays, and identify if the distribution of DHCP leases follows a pattern or varies dramatically from one week to another. Upon finding a certain pattern, you can better prepare for the upcoming days. For example, the following image shows that your networks are busier on Fridays and Saturdays than other week days, and DHCP leases are heavily issued on Fridays. As a network administrator, you can review these patterns and find out what was causing this busier DHCP leases and when was the busiest time on that particular day. With this information, you can plan your network resources for upcoming Fridays and weekends to accommodate higher than normal DHCP leases.
