Enabling SNMP service on DNS/DHCP Servers - BlueCat Integrity - 26.1.0

Log in to the BAM user interface as the administrator to enable SNMP service on a BDDS.

1. Select the Servers tab in the sidebar, then select Servers.
2. Select the name of a server.
3. Select the Services tab.
4. Under Monitoring and analytics, locate the SNMP service panel and select Edit service.
5. Select the Enabled check box to enable the SNMP service. When SNMP service is enabled, network management systems may poll the server to receive SNMP information. Deselect this check box to disable SNMP service.
6. Configure the following SNMP service parameters:
   • System name—enter the system name to be reported through SNMP (by default, Bluecat).
   • System description—enter a brief description of the system to be reported through SNMP.
   • Contact email—enter an e-mail address for the system contact to be reported through SNMP.
   • Location—enter a description of the system’s location to be reported through SNMP.
   • Polling interval—specify the SNMP polling time value and select a unit from the drop-down menu. The polling interval determines the frequency that SNMP values are refreshed on the appliance.
   • Log level—specify the verbosity of SNMP Syslog logging.
7. On the SNMPs tab, set the following parameters:
   • SNMPv1—select the Enable SNMPv1 check box to enable the SNMP v1 protocol. When enabling SNMPv1, the following additional parameter appears:
     • Community string—type the SNMP community string. This string is used to authenticate the polling request.
   • SNMPv2c—select the Enable SNMPv2c check box to enable the SNMP v2c protocol. When enabling SNMPv2c, the following additional parameter appears:
     • Community string—type the SNMP community string. This string is used to authenticate the polling request.
   • SNMPv3—select the Enable SNMPv3 check box to enable the SNMP v3 protocol. When enabling SNMPv3, the following additional parameter appears:
     • Username—enter the SNMP username for the SNMP user. This field appears only when using SNMP version 3.
     • Security level—this field appears only when using SNMP version 3. Select an SNMP security level from the drop-down list:

       Option	Description
       No authentication, no privacy	The SNMP service doesn't require user authentication and doesn't encrypt the data it returns.
       Authentication, no privacy	The SNMP service requires user authentication but doesn't encrypt the data it returns.
       Authentication, privacy	The SNMP service requires user authentication and encrypts the data it returns.

     • Authentication protocol—select either MD5 or SHA authentication. This drop-down menu appears only when using SNMP version 3 and when Authentication, no privacy, or Authentication, privacy is selected in the Security level field.
     • Authentication passphrase—type the user authentication password of the SNMP user. This field appears only when using SNMP version 3 and when Authentication, no privacy or Authentication, privacy is selected in the Security level field.
     • Privacy protocol—select either DES or AES 128 encryption types. This drop-down menu appears only when using SNMP version 3 and when Authentication, privacy is selected in the Security level field.
     • Privacy passphrase—enter the privacy authentication password used to encrypt the trap data. This field appears only when using SNMP version 3 and when Authentication, privacy is selected in the Security level field.
8. Select Save to apply your changes.
