Before you begin preparing for discovery, it is essential that you understand the end-to-end process involved in discovery.
-
Prepare the environment for discovery by adding credentials to enable Network Discovery to gain access to and gather information about the devices you want to discover using the supported discovery types.
-
Configure discovery behavior by creating discovery policies.
-
Configure probes that will perform discovery.
-
Create discovery tasks that combine discovery policy, probe, and scheduling information.
-
Run the discovery tasks at the current time manually, or at the scheduled time automatically.
-
Review discovery results generated by the discovery tasks.
-
Create reconciliation policies to reconcile discovered data with Address Manager, as required. Reconciliation results are generated and differences between discovered data and Address Manager data are displayed for review in the Device reconciliation page in BlueCat Address Manager.
-
Reconcile discovery results. The selected changes are applied to IP Space (IPAM tab) and Device Space (Devices tab) in BlueCat Address Manager.
Example workflow
-
Create an SSH discovery policy to configure SSH discovery behavior.
-
Configure a probe that will perform SSH discovery.
-
Create a discovery task that combines the SSH discovery policy, probe, and scheduling information for running SSH discovery.
- Run the discovery task at the current time manually, or at the scheduled time automatically.
-
Once the discovery task completes, review the generated discovery results.
-
Create a reconciliation policy to reconcile discovered data with Address Manager, as required.
