This section describes how to configure an IP address and default gateway to your DNS/DHCP Server.
The procedure for configuring a DNS/DHCP Server and adding it to Address Manager will vary according to the number of interfaces on your DNS/DHCP Server appliance, and the number of interfaces that you want to use. Each DNS/DHCP Server interface (including eth1) should be on a separate network to avoid any potential issues.
BlueCat DNS/DHCP Servers are available in the following configurations:
- 2-port DNS/DHCP Server
- 3-port DNS/DHCP Server
- 3-port DNS/DHCP Server VM
- 4-port DNS/DHCP Server
The following table describes the interfaces that are being used by different types of
DNS/DHCP Server appliances.
Number of ports | eth0 | eth1 | eth2 | eth3 |
---|---|---|---|---|
2-port DNS/DHCP Server | Services / Management | xHA | N/A | N/A |
3-port DNS/DHCP Server | Services | xHA | Management | N/A |
4-port DNS/DHCP Server | Services | xHA | Management | Redundancy |
- DNS/DHCP Server features support for Dedicated Management on 3 and 4-port DNS/DHCP Server appliances and 3-port DNS/DHCP Server virtual machines, isolating all management traffic onto the eth2 interface and all services traffic onto the eth0 interface.
- DNS/DHCP Server appliances with four network interfaces can be configured for Services (eth0), xHA (eth1), Management (eth2), and Redundancy (eth3) through port bonding (bond0=eth0 + eth3). DNS/DHCP Server VMs can be configured with three network interfaces to support Services, xHA, and Management.
- DNS/DHCP Servers can be configured with multiple VLAN interfaces. For details, refer to VLAN tagging.
