The Search tool locates objects in Address Manager. The search returns a list of all matching items to which you have access. In order to avoid the return of numerous unrelated search results, use specific search criteria and select the type of object for which you want to search when trying to search particular results.
Note: Searches performed by
non-administrative users are limited by their user permissions.
You only see objects to which you are granted access.
To search for objects:
- Click the Search bar and select Advanced Search.
- From the Category drop-down menu, select an object category to limit your search to specific types of Address Manager objects. For a list of object categories and items within those categories, refer to Reference: Object search categories.
- From the Object drop-down menu, select a specific object item to further limit your search result. Object items appearing in this field will vary depending on the object category that you select in the Category drop-down menu.

From the Search Type drop-down menu, select the search
type:
- Common Fields—search by matching names and IP data such as IP addresses, DHCP ranges, blocks, and networks.
- All Fields—search all fields including user-defined fields through the user interface.
- Custom Search—search objects based on combinations of various properties (system-defined and user-defined) that you can specify as search criteria. The search will return only the objects matching all the criteria specified.

In the Search field, type the text for which you want to
search. You can use the following wildcards in the search:
- ^—matches the beginning of a string. For example: ^ex matches example but not text.
- $—matches the end of string. For example: ple$ matches example but not please.
- *—matches zero or more characters within a string. For example: ex*t matches exit and excellent.
Note: You can't use the following characters in the search string:- , (comma)
- ‘ (single quotation mark)
- ( ) (parentheses)
- [ ] (square brackets)
- { } (braces)
- % (percent)
- ? (question mark)
- + (addition/plus sign)
- | (Pipe)
- In the Maximum Results field, type the maximum number of search results you want to display, up to 1000.

From the Search In options, select the type of data
that you wish to search from the drop-down menu.
- Local—select this option to search Response Policy items that match the pattern in the local Response Policy data.
- Feed—select this option to search Response Policy items that match the pattern in the BlueCat Security feed Response Policy data.
- All—select this option to search all Response Policy items that match the pattern in the local Response Policies data and in the BlueCat Security feed data.
Note: When searching for Response Policy items in the BlueCat Security Feed, Address Manager must have Internet access and port 53 opened for outbound communication. Address Manager Internet connectivity is only necessary for customers using BlueCat Threat Protection. - Click Search. The search results appear.
- Click the name of an object in the results list to display the object.
