Once the reconciliation policy is successfully created, it is displayed in the Reconciliation policies table in the Network Discovery & Visibility GUI. Once the reconciliation policy runs, selecting the name of a reconciliation policy opens the results in the corresponding <reconciliation policy-name> Device reconciliation policy page in Address Manager.
To view the associated reconciliation policy configuration details, select the <reconciliation policy-name> Device reconciliation policy page menu, then select View Details. The expanded details section displays details such as the reconciliation policy's object ID in Address Manager, ID of the associated discovery task, parent configuration, current reconciliation state (Pending, Completed), configured network boundaries and overrides, etc.
The <reconciliation policy-name> Device reconciliation policy for the selected reconciliation policy has three tabs: Reconciliations, Discovered devices, and Transactions.
Reconciliations
The Reconciliations table displays results of the reconciliation operation such as the list of unreconciled IP addresses (IP discrepancies) that require attention based on reconciliation, their IP range, MAC address, reconciliation type (Unknown, Reclaimable, or Mismatched), and time since first detection of discrepancy with Address Manager. The Device reconciliation column contains a reference to the associated discovered device, if one exists. Selecting the device name opens the expanded details section, showing additional details on the device such as its management address, vendor and system name, addresses, reconciliation type and state, etc.
To reconcile all addresses, or selected addresses:
-
Select the checkbox for one or more IP addresses, then select . To reconcile all addresses, select .Note: When you reconcile an IP address that has an associated discovered device, the device also gets reconciled automatically.
-
Select an Address Manager DNS view against which the reconciliation process will be performed. If you do not select a view, IP addresses will be reconciled against all DNS views.
Select Reconcile.
The Address Manager data is updated to match the discovered data. If a matching network exists, the respective IPs are mapped to it. If no matching network exists, a new network is automatically created and the respective IPs are then mapped to it.
Then, the reconciled IP addresses are displayed as part of their respective networks within the IP space in Address Manager (accesed by selecting the tab in the sidebar). If any discovered devices are part of this reconciliation process, they are displayed in the Device space in Address Manager (accesed by selecting the Devices tab in the sidebar).Note: The Source column in the IPv4/IPv6 networks table and Devices table in Address Manager displays NDV as the source, enabling you to easily identify addresses and devices added/updated due to reconciliations from Network Discovery & Visibility. If this column isn't displayed for you, you must customize the table by using the column select widget; for more information, refer to Customizing tables. Here's how reconciliation works: All of the addresses that can be reconciled are reconciled as follows:
- Unknown IP addresses are added to the Address Manager database.
- Reclaimable IP addresses are removed from the Address Manager database.
- Mismatched IP addresses are updated with the information from the most recent discovery operation, overwriting the mismatched data in Address Manager. The only exception to this rule is if an IP address discovered on the network has a different DNS host name from the host name listed in Address Manager. In this situation, Address Manager creates a new host record for the IP address, resulting in multiple host records for the IP address.
- There's a conflict between the size of the physical network and the size of the equivalent IP network object in Address Manager.
- The IP state between two discovery sessions doesn't match. For example, an earlier discovery session reported the address as Static; before the next discovery session, another user changes its state to Reserved.
- Similar to other tables in Integrity, you can search for specific IP addresses in the Reconciliations table, sort and customize the table, as well as filter, refresh, and download table data.
- View details of each reconciliation operation—select an IP address entry in the Reconciliations table, or select the vertical ellipsis icon for an entry in the table, then select View details. The expanded details section displays additional information about the selected IP address, such as the associated reconciliation policy, switch port and router port information, VLAN information, etc.
- Override unreconciled IP addresses—to ignore one or more unreconciled IP addresses, select the vertical ellipsis icon for those addresses, then select Add to override list. In the Add Reconciliation to the override list window that opens, enter a change control comment if required, then select Add. The existing Address Manager data is retained and considered authoritative. The Overridden column in the Reconciliations table shows if the address is exempt from the reconciliation process. No shows that the IP address isn't added to the override list; Yes shows that it's added to the override list. Overridden addresses aren't affected by the Reconcile all and Reconcile actions.
- Delete unreconciled IP addresses—to delete one or more unreconciled IP addresses:
- Do one of the following:
- Select the checkbox for one or more IP addresses in the Reconciliations table, then select .
- Select the vertical ellipsis icon for an entry in the Reconciliations table, then select Delete.
- Select an entry in the Reconciliations table, then select Delete in the expanded details section that appears.
A confirmation window appears, asking you to confirm the deletion.
- Select Delete again.
The selected reconciliation objects and their child objects are successfully deleted. You're taken back to the Reconciliations tab.
Discovered devices
The Discovered devices tab lists all devices detected during discovery, with associated details such as the number of MAC addresses associated with the device (MAC address count), number of subnets in which the device is present (Subnet count), associated IP addresses, and location.
Transactions
The Transactions tab lists the transaction history for individual reconciliation operations, with associated details such as the name of the user who performed the transaction, transaction number, time of occurrence, and action type for the transaction. For more details, refer to Viewing transaction history
