The following chart displays basic deployment option inheritance flow for Address Manager deployment option objects.

Note:
  • In the Address Manager object structure, the configuration is the parent IPAM object, encompassing all other objects in the network. By default, options set at higher levels are inherited at child or lower levels, unless overwritten at the lower level.
  • To overwrite an inherited value at a lower level, you must create a new deployment option of the same type with the modified value. Editing an inherited deployment option edits the option at its original level. To override an inherited option, you must create a new instance of the option at the lower level.
  • Options configured on IPAM/DNS objects (i.e. block/network/view/zone) will overwrite duplicate type option values configured on servers and server groups.
  • Some deployment options cannot be inherited and are available at specific levels only (such as the view-only Root Hints DNS deployment option).
  • DNS option inheritance settings:
    • Configuration specific DNS option inheritance settings allow users to control whether DNS options are inherited from blocks and zones by child blocks, networks, and zones within a configuration. For more information, refer to Defining DNS option inheritance settings.
    • DNS deployment options set on IPv4 blocks apply only to the reverse zones that correspond to those blocks and are inherited by the networks within the blocks only if the DNS option inheritance setting of the configuration isn't disabled. DNS deployment options set on IPv6 Blocks apply only to the reverse zones that correspond to those blocks and are not inherited by the networks within the blocks, regardless of the DNS option inheritance setting of the configuration. If you set any DNS deployment options at the network level you must also set a DNS deployment role at the network level in order to deploy those options.
  • Server groups:
    • You cannot override deployment options set at the configuration level from the server group level if the deployment option is applied to a specific server within a server group.
    • You cannot configure DHCP deployment options on a multi-primary server group.
