How to replace Managed Windows servers.

If any of your Managed Windows DNS or DHCP servers experience hardware failure, BlueCat recommends swapping out the server and keeping the existing IP address.

If a Managed Windows DNS/DHCP server fails:

  1. Disconnect the failed Windows server hardware and replace it with a new Windows DNS/DHCP server.
  2. From Address Manager, edit the Managed Windows server making sure to use the same IP address as the failed server:
    1. Select the Servers tab.
    2. Click the name of the failed Managed Windows server.
    3. Click the server name menu and select Edit.
    4. Verify that the IPv4 address is the same as before the hardware failure and click Update.
      Note: BlueCat recommends keeping the same IPv4 address as the failed Windows server to ensure continuation of services and functionality.
  3. From Address Manager, perform either of the following:
    • Read-Only Mode—if the Windows server is in Read-Only mode, perform an import of the related services (for example, DNS/DHCP import).
    • Read-Write Mode—if the Windows server is in Read-Write mode, deploy to the Managed Windows server to ensure continuation of services and functionality.
