Set a forwarding DNS deployment option by providing a list of server IP addresses that are designed as forwarders.
A Forwarding DNS deployment option affects delegation to sub zones for which a server
isn't authoritative. The DNS forwarding behavior varies based on the level at which
this option is set:
- Server, server group, or view level—if an incoming query matches a view that allows recursive queries, and the server is not authoritative for the query, then the query will be forwarded to one of the IP addresses specified when defining the deployment option. This is DNS forwarding.
- Zone, block, or network (IPv4 and IPv6) level—if an incoming query matches the zone or IP address, then the query is forwarded to one of the IP addresses specified when defining the deployment option. In addition, the query is forwarded to either the IP address of the DNS server assigned the Primary DNS deployment role for the object, or to the target interface specified when defining the Forwarder DNS deployment role. This is DNS zone forwarding.
