When you create a new Discovery from the Discovery page, if the pre-flight check is successful (or bypassed), CDV runs the task right away. If it has a scheduled run time, it will also automatically run at the specified time and interval. You can also start or stop it manually.

If a discovery is no longer applicable (such as when it has been replaced, or when the network it discovers has been dismantled), you can terminate it. Terminating a Schedule manager deletes the Schedule manager from the Discovery list in CDV and removes the jobs and associated resources it created from CDV's database.

When terminating a discovery, you will be asked whether you want to also delete the associated resources that were imported into Address Manager. If you do, CDV will only delete resources that it can confirm are not being used by other Address Manager Configurations. The remaining are merely tagged for deletion, so they can be manually checked and deleted later.

To start a discovery:

  1. If you haven't already done so, open the Discovery page (click the Discovery tab).

  2. Select the checkboxes of the Schedule managers with discoveries that you want to start.

For more details on how to find a specific discovery, see Searching, filtering, and viewing items in tables.

You cannot start a discovery that's already running.

  3. At the top of the table, click Actions, then select Start.
Note: If you are starting a discovery with a status of Pre-flight: completed with issues, a warning will appear asking if you want to Run pre-flight check first or Start anyway. For more information, refer to Performing a pre-flight check.

If not stopped by the pre-flight check, CDV runs the job in the selected Schedule manager, searching the specified network infrastructure for network resources and adds them to BlueCat Address Manager as resources. After you start a discovery, the status of the job will not change while the scheduled task is executing.

To stop a discovery:

  1. Select the checkboxes of the Schedule managers with the discoveries that you want to stop.

For more details on how to find a specific Schedule manager, see Searching, filtering, and viewing items in tables.

You cannot stop a discovery that's already stopped.

  2. At the top of the table, click Actions, then select Stop.

Jobs in the selected Schedule managers are stopped. The resources added to Address Manager by the jobs in those Schedule managers will remain.

To terminate (delete) a discovery job:

  1. If you haven't already done so, open the Discovery page (click the Discovery tab).

  2. Select the checkboxes of the Schedule managers whose discoveries you want to terminate.

For more details on how to find a specific Schedule manager, see Searching, filtering, and viewing items in tables.

  3. At the top of the table, click Actions, then select Terminate.

You will be asked whether you want to also remove the resources in BlueCat Address Manager that are associated with the selected jobs within that Schedule manager. By default, terminating a job will remove the data from CDV while retaining it in Address Manager. Click the Terminate button after making your selection.

Note: If you select the option to also delete resources from Address Manager, but the deletion from Address Manager failed, the Discovery manager and job will not be removed from CDV. It will instead be flagged as Terminated with issues in the Discovery page.

For more details on how CDV deletes these resources (and how to delete them manually), see How CDV deletes Address Manager resources associated with Terminated Discovery jobs, Schedules, and Visibility Managers.

Note: After you start a Schedule manager, its jobs will only terminate when the scheduled task finishes executing.
