Visibility managers are created when you set up a Discovery job, then choose Real time updates as the Monitoring option. Visibility managers contain Visibility jobs, which maintain real-time updates of discovered resources on the network with the imported objects in BlueCat Address Manager. The Visibility page displays a table of all visibility managers and their details.

When you perform actions on a Visibility Manager (Start, Stop, and so on), Cloud Discovery & Visibility (CDV) performs those actions on all jobs within that Visibility Manager.

By default, Visibility managers (and their jobs) are started when you finish setting up its settings, but you can stop and start them manually (or through the CDV API) if needed.

If a visibility manager's job is no longer applicable (such as when the network it provides visibility to has been dismantled), you can terminate the job or the whole Visibility manager. Terminating a job deletes the job from the list in CDV and removes the associated resources it created from CDV's database.

When terminating a job, you will be asked whether you want to also delete the associated resources that were imported into Address Manager. If you do, CDV will only delete resources that it can confirm are not being used by other Configurations. The remaining are merely tagged for deletion, so they can be manually checked and deleted later.

To start the jobs in a Visibility manager:

  1. If you haven't already done so, open the Visibility page (click the Visibility tab).

  2. Select the checkboxes of the Visibility managers that you want to start.

For more details on how to find a specific Visibility manager, see Searching, filtering, and viewing items in tables.

You cannot start a Visibility manager that's already running.

  3. At the top of the table, click Actions, then select Start.

If not stopped by the pre-flight check, CDV runs the job in the selected visibility manager(s), searching the specified network infrastructure for network resources and importing them to BlueCat Address Manager as resources. After starting, the status of the job will not change while the scheduled task is executing.

Note: CDV automatically runs Discovery before starting or restarting a Visibility manager. Doing so makes sure that CDV retrieves any changes made during the time the Visibility manager had stopped running.
Note: If you are starting a visibility with a status of Pre-flight: completed with issues, a warning will appear asking if you want to Run pre-flight check first or Start anyway. For more information, refer to Performing a pre-flight check.

To stop the jobs in a Visibility manager:

  1. Select the checkboxes of the Visibility managers whose jobs you want to stop.

For more details on how to find a specific Visibility manager, see Searching, filtering, and viewing items in tables.

You cannot stop a Visibility manager that has already stopped.

  2. At the top of the table, click Actions, then select Stop.

CDV stops the jobs in the selected Visibility manager. The resources added to Address Manager by the Visibility manager will remain.

Note: CDV automatically runs Discovery before starting or restarting a Visibility manager. Doing so makes sure that CDV retrieves any changes made during the time the Visibility manager had stopped running.

To terminate (delete) the jobs in a Visibility manager:

  1. If you haven't already done so, open the Visibility page (click the Visibility tab).

  2. Select the checkboxes of the Visibility managers with jobs that you want to terminate.

For more details on how to find a specific Visibility manager, see Searching, filtering, and viewing items in tables.

  3. At the top of the table, click Actions, then select Terminate.

You will be asked whether you want to also remove the resources in BlueCat Address Manager that are associated with the selected jobs. By default, terminating a job will remove the data from CDV while retaining it in Address Manager. Click the Terminate button after making your selection.

Note: If you select the option to also delete resources from Address Manager, but the deletion from Address Manager failed, the Visibility job and manager will not be removed from CDV. It will instead be flagged as Terminated with issues in the Visibility page.

For more details on how CDV deletes these resources (and how to delete them manually), see How CDV deletes Address Manager resources associated with Terminated Discovery jobs, Schedules, and Visibility Managers.
