Integrity is a platform for integrated DNS, DHCP, and IP address management. Integrity consists of two core components: BlueCat Address Manager (BAM) and BlueCat DNS/DHCP Servers (BDDS).

BlueCat Address Manager (BAM)

BAM servers unify DNS, DHCP, and IPAM data into a single system that can be controlled from a web-based GUI or by API. The BAM database holds all IPAM data and the configurations for DNS and DHCP services.

BlueCat DNS/DHCP Servers (BDDS)

BDDSs are the servers that provide DNS and DHCP services to clients. DNS and DHCP configuration data is created on BAM, then deployed from BAM to the BDDS appliances that serve clients. As DNS and DHCP services run, BDDSs receive dynamic data such as DHCP leases and DNS updates. This data is dynamically sent back to BAM as notification traffic, ensuring that BAM always has a live, up-to-date view of all data.

Separation of management and services

This relationship between BAM and BDDS follows Integrity's management model, where the management of data is separated from the services themselves. BAM servers, which contain the database of DDI data, sit in the management layer, and manage one or many BDDSs in the services layer. Keeping the management and services layers independent of each other ensures that DNS and DHCP services will not be affected if BAM is unavailable for a period of time.
