This section explains how to launch AMI instances using the AWS web interface.
This task assumes that you are already familiar with AWS-related settings as well as
BAM and BDDS
operations.
Prerequisites for launching virtual appliances on AWS:
- You must have a valid AWS account.
- You must have defined an AWS Virtual Private Cloud (VPC). For more information about VPC, refer to http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonVPC/latest/UserGuide/VPC_Introduction.html.
- You must obtain your licenses from BlueCat Customer Care. As part of the configuration while launching your virtual appliances, you will be required to provide a BlueCat Activation Key.
Note: BlueCat strongly recommends connecting to your Virtual
Private Cloud (VPC)
using a VPN connection when working in a mixed environment where part of your
DNS, DHCP, and IPAM (DDI) infrastructure is on-site and part of it is on the AWS cloud.
Launching a BlueCat DNS for AWS instance involves the following tasks:
- Obtaining a BlueCat AMI image and selecting an instance type. For more information, refer to Obtaining AMI images and selecting instance type.
- Configuring instance details including network settings for the instance. For more information, refer to Configuring instance details.
- Defining storage settings for the instance. For more information, refer to Defining storage device settings.
- Tagging the instance to categorize and manage. For more information, refer to Tagging instances.
- Configuring a set of firewall rules by creating a new security group or selecting an existing security group. For more information, refer to Configuring security group settings.
- Reviewing and completing the instance launch.
- Defining secure key pairs. For more information, refer to Defining secure key pairs.
After completing these main tasks, you will see your new
instance added to the instance list.
