BlueCat AWS Virtual Appliances

Product name
BlueCat Integrity

This section explains how to launch AMI instances using the AWS web interface.

This task assumes that you are already familiar with AWS-related settings and basic operations for BlueCat Address Manager and DNS/DHCP Servers.
Prerequisites for launching virtual appliances on AWS:
  • You must have a valid AWS account.
  • You must have your AWS account ID. This is used while configuring the license information.
  • You must have defined an AWS Virtual Private Cloud (VPC). For more information about VPC, refer to
  • You must obtain your BlueCat appliance licenses from BlueCat Customer Care. As part of the configuration while launching your virtual appliances, you will be required to provide a BlueCat License Key.
Note: BlueCat strongly recommends connecting to your Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) using a VPN connection when working in a mixed environment where part of your DNS, DHCP, and IPAM (DDI) infrastructure is on-site and part of it's on the AWS cloud.

Launching a BlueCat AWS Virtual Appliance instance through the AWS web interface involves the following tasks:

  1. Defining the name and tags for the instance. For more information, refer to Defining name and tags.
  2. Selecting a verified BlueCat Virtual Appliance AMI from the AWS Marketplace. For more information, refer to Obtaining AMIs.
  3. Selecting an instance type based on the purchased appliance. For more information, refer to Selecting an instance type.
  4. Defining secure key pairs for connection to the instance via SSH. For more information, refer to Defining secure key pairs.
  5. Configuring network settings including interfaces and firewall (security groups). For more information, refer to Configuring network settings.
  6. Selecting storage settings for the instance. For more information, refer to Defining storage device settings.
  7. Supplying the BlueCat license and advanced instance parameters. For more information, refer to Configuring licensing and advanced details.
  8. Reviewing and launching the BlueCat Virtual Appliance instance. For more information, refer to Reviewing and completing the instance launch.
After completing these main tasks, you will see your new instance added to the instance list.
