Launch BlueCat AWS Virtual Appliances based on the needs of your network environment. You can configure BlueCat Address Manager for AWS and BlueCat DNS and DHCP Server for AWS in the following infrastructure scenarios:
  • On-site Address Manager appliances managing BlueCat DNS and DHCP Server for AWS virtual appliances.
  • On-site Address Manager appliances managing on-site DNS/DHCP Server appliances and BlueCat DNS and DHCP Server for AWS virtual appliances.
  • BlueCat Address Manager for AWS managing BlueCat DNS and DHCP Server for AWS virtual appliances.
  • BlueCat Address Manager for AWS managing on-site DNS/DHCP Server appliances.
  • BlueCat Address Manager for AWS managing BlueCat DNS and DHCP Server for AWS virtual appliances and on-site DNS/DHCP Server appliances.
Attention: Configuring DHCP service on a BlueCat DNS and DHCP Server for AWS virtual appliance

If you are configuring DHCP service on your BlueCat DNS and DHCP Server for AWS virtual appliance, the DHCP traffic to the BlueCat DNS and DHCP Server for AWS virtual appliance must be Unicast. AWS does not support broadcast in a VPC. If you would like to configure DHCP service on a BlueCat DNS and DHCP Server for AWS virtual appliance to be accessible from on-premise devices using a DHCP helper or relay, the traffic must be Unicast.

The BlueCat DNS and DHCP Server for AWS virtual appliance cannot provide DHCP to any AWS EC2 devices within the VPC where it resides, as this is handled automatically by AWS for hosts. The BlueCat DNS and DHCP Server for AWS virtual appliance can provide Unicast DHCP as a service to hosts external to the VPC.
