This section explains how to launch BlueCat Virtual Appliances VM instances using the global Azure or Azure Government Portal.
This task assumes that you are already familiar with
Azure-related settings including BAM and BDDS operations.
Prerequisites for launching virtual
appliances on Azure:
- You must have a valid Azure subscription.
- You must obtain your Address Manager and BlueCat Virtual Appliances licenses from BlueCat Customer Care. As part of the configuration while launching your virtual appliances, you will be required to provide a BlueCat Client ID and Activation Key.
Note: BlueCat strongly recommends connecting to your Azure Virtual Network
using a VPN connection when working in a mixed environment where part of your
DNS, DHCP, and IPAM (DDI) infrastructure is on-site and part of it's on the
Azure cloud.
Launching a BlueCat Azure Virtual Appliance instance involves the following tasks:
-
Obtaining a BlueCat Azure image through the Azure marketplace:
- Configuring basic settings: VM name, VM version, SSH key, BlueCat client ID and license key, number of VMs, Azure subscription, resource group, and location.
- Defining system settings for the instance: VM size, storage account(s), and diagnostics.
- Defining the availability set configuration for the instance: availability set, number of fault domains, and number of update domains.
- Defining network settings for the instance: Virtual Network, subnets, and private IPs for the service and Dedicated Management interfaces.
- Reviewing and completing the instance launch.
- Defining secure key pairs.
After completing these main tasks, you will see your new
instance added to the instance list.
