This section explains how to launch BlueCat Azure Virtual Appliances using the global Azure or Azure Government Portal.

This task assumes that you are already familiar with Azure-related settings and basic operations for BlueCat Address Manager and DNS Servers.
Prerequisites for launching virtual appliances on Azure:
  • You must have a valid Azure subscription.
  • You must obtain your BlueCat Address Manager for Azure and BlueCat DNS for Azure licenses from BlueCat Customer Care. As part of the configuration while launching your virtual appliances, you will be required to provide a BlueCat Client ID and License Key.
Note: BlueCat strongly recommends connecting to your Azure Virtual Network using a VPN connection when working in a mixed environment where part of your DNS, DHCP, and IPAM (DDI) infrastructure is on-site and part of it's on the Azure cloud.

Launching BlueCat Azure Virtual Appliances involves the following tasks:

  1. Obtaining a BlueCat Azure Application through the Azure marketplace:
    1. Log in to the global Azure or Azure Government Portal.
    2. On the Azure home page, click Create a resource.
    3. Search the Azure marketplace for BlueCat.
    4. From the search results, select BlueCat Address Manager for Azure or BlueCat DNS for Azure then click Create.
  2. Configuring the project details: Subscription, Resource group
  3. Configuring the instance details: Region, VM Name, Availability Options, SKU, Image Version, SSH public key source, Key pair name, Client ID, and License Key.
  4. Defining system settings for the instance: Size and Storage Account.
  5. Defining network settings for the instance: Virtual Network, Service Subnet, Management Subnet (BlueCat DNS for Azure) and Public IP Address.
  6. Reviewing and completing the instance launch.
  7. Configuring network security group settings.
