1.5.0
Before you can configure BlueCat Cloud Resolver, you must configure the following within BlueCat Edge:
  • An API access key set
  • A namespace
  • A domain list
When Cloud Resolver discovers DNS zones within the cloud environments, the DNS zones are added to a domain list within BlueCat Edge using the API access key set provided. The domain list within BlueCat Edge can be applied to a namespace of a site and its associated service point where clients query DNS zones and the service point can redirect traffic to the relevant DNS zone within the cloud.

For more information on configuring sites and deploying service points from sites, refer to the BlueCat DNS Edge User Guide.

Creating the API access key set

  1. Log in to your BlueCat Edge Cloud Instance.
  2. In the navigation bar, click Account > Profile.
  3. Click the symbol.
  4. Click Download .JSON File to download a JSON file containing your client ID and secret access key.
Note: Once you close the client ID creation window, you can't access your secret access key again. BlueCat strongly recommends downloading the JSON file containing this information and storing it in a secure location.
  5. Click Close.
Note: You can have a maximum of two API access key sets created at one time.

Once you have created the API access key set, make note of the values as these will be used for the Cloud Resolver configuration.

Configuring namespaces

  1. In the top navigation bar, click and select Namespaces.
  2. To add a new namespace, click .
  3. Add the name and description.
  4. Leave the remaining fields default and blank, as the namespace ID is only required for the configuration of Cloud Resolver; however, you can configure the namespace and attach it to a site that forwards the Edge Service Point traffic to Cloud Resolver. For more information on configuring the namespace, refer to the BlueCat DNS Edge User Guide.
Note: Cloud Resolver does not modify the configuration of the namespace.
  5. Click Save.

Once you have created the namespace, click the name of newly created domain list to load the details. From the browser navigation bar, make note of the namespace ID, as this will be used for the Cloud Resolver configuration.

Configuring the domain list

  1. Log in to your BlueCat Edge Cloud Instance.
  2. In the top navigation bar, click and select Domain Lists.
  3. Click to create a new domain list.
  4. Enter the domain list name.
  5. For Type, select User Defined
  6. Enter a brief description of the domain list.
  7. Under Domains, leave the field blank.

When Cloud Resolver discovers domains in the cloud environments, the domains are added to the domain list field. If you would like to add any additional domains outside of the domains discovered by Cloud Resolver, you can manually enter domains in this field.

  8. Click Save.

Once you have created the domain list, click the name of newly created domain list to load the details. From the browser navigation bar, make note of the domain list ID, as this will be used for the Cloud Resolver configuration.
