Service Point v4.x.x
This section gives detailed instructions for provisioning a Service Point on a BlueCat hardware appliance using iDRAC.
Warning: Provisioning Service Point on XMB4, BDDS-25, BDDS-50, BDDS-75, and BDDS-125 appliances repurposes the appliance as a service point only, removing all existing DNS and DHCP configurations from the appliance. Once you have provisioned the service point on the appliance, the appliance no longer contains the BlueCat DNS/DHCP Server software and cannot be taken under Address Manager control.

Prerequisites

The following prerequisites must be met before you begin:
  • You must have one of the following BlueCat hardware appliance models:
    • BDDS-25
    • BDDS-50
    • BDDS-75
    • BDDS-125
    • BC-2500
    • BC-4500
    • BC-6500
    • BC-8500
Attention: You cannot install the service point on an XMB4 appliance using iDRAC.
  • You must have downloaded the Service Point installation image and the Service Point configuration file from the Service Points (v4) page. For more information, refer to Provision Service Point on BlueCat hardware appliances.
  • Provisioning the Service Point is performed using iDRAC remote access to the appliance. You must first configure the static IP settings and configure the iDRAC web access password before remotely connecting. For more information, refer to Configuring and Setting the web access password in the Address Manager Administration Guide.

Installing the Service Point software

Attention: This section is only required for XMB4, BDDS-25, BDDS-50, BDDS-75, and BDDS-125 appliances. The BC-2500, BC-4500, BC-6500, and BC-8500 appliances come pre-installed with the Service Point image.

Provisioning the Service Point on a BlueCat hardware appliance

  1. In your browser, type https://ip_address, where ip_address is the IP address assigned to the iDRAC port, and then press ENTER. The iDRAC Login screen opens.
  2. Log in using the configured iDRAC password.
  3. From the iDRAC Dashboard, under Virtual Console, click Launch Virtual Console. The virtual console opens in a new window.
  4. In the top bar of the window, select Connect Virtual Media. The Virtual Media page opens.
  5. Under Map CD/DVD, click Choose File.
  6. Select the Service Point configuration file that was downloaded after creating the service point from the Edge Cloud.
  7. Click Map Device to map the ISO file to the CD/DVD drive.
  8. Click Close to close the Virtual Media page.
  9. In the top bar of the window, click Power. The Power Controls page opens.
  10. Under Power Controls, select Reset System (warm boot).

The appliance starts with the Service Point software. Upon the initial boot of the software, cloud-init runs and reads the configuration from the connected CD/DVD drive. Once the configuration has been read, the Service Point daemon processes start and the service point registers with the Edge Cloud Instance.

You can verify the status of the service point by checking the details on the Service points (v4) page. The Status field on the service point details page displays Registered when the Service Point has successfully connected to the Edge Cloud Instance.

Once you have provisioned the Service Point, you can deploy DNS resolver service. For more information, refer to DNS resolver services.

Attention: You can use the Service Point telemetry APIs to verify that the Service Point has successfully registered. The registrationStatus field within the Service Point telemetry API response returns a value of REGISTERED when the Service Point has successfully registered with the BlueCat Edge Cloud. If the value is not REGISTERED, this may indicate that there is an issue with the service point provisioning and the service point may not operate as intended.

For more information on the Service Point telemetry APIs, refer to Service Point telemetry APIs.
