Log in to BlueCat Edge

Log in to BlueCat Edge using the link and credentials received in your Welcome to BlueCat Edge emails. Supported browsers include Google Chrome, Mozilla FireFox, and Apple Safari.

Attention: A known issue exists with Apple Safari where drop-down items in dialog boxes may not display the pop-up options when clicked. As a workaround, press the space bar when the drop-down is in focus.

In the Welcome to BlueCat Edge email, you will find the BlueCat Edge URL, including the email address to log in with.

The Temporary Password to authenticate with for the first login was made available to you in the Temporary Password e-mail.
Note: Make sure you copy and paste the email address and the temporary password with no spaces, or type them in identically as they were made available to you.

When you log in to BlueCat Edge, one of the first features you'll notice is the dashboard. The dashboard displays tiles with relevant information related to the service points that you have provisioned, services that you have deployed to those service points, and information about the query information passing through BlueCat Edge.

Using the dashboard

In the Dashboard area, you can click within a tile to open the page relevant to the statistic being shown.
  • Click to open the DNS Activity page. From this page, you can filter query data based on the selected site in the Query logs tab or view graphical representations of the query data in the Insights tab.
  • Click to open the Security page and view information regarding potentially compromised source IP addresses, identified by suspicious activity observed within BlueCat Edge.
  • Click to open the Reports page and gain insights into trends in your environment based on the data that is collected by Edge.
  • You can select whether you would like to enable Auto refresh of the statistics in the dashboard, or click to manually refresh the statistics of the dashboard.
  • The bulletin icon displays the number of notifications that require your attention. These notifications can range from site or policies not in use, old or outdated API access keys that are not in use, or additional information about configurations that require your attention. Click the icon to load a panel with notifications that require your attention.

From the Bulletin panel, you can filter notifications based on the following:
    • All
    • Access key
    • Discovery configuration
    • DNS Resolver
    • Domain list
    • GSLB rule
    • Health check config
    • IP list
    • Logging endpoint
    • Namespace
    • Policy
    • Secret
    • Site
    • Umbrella integration

You can click on a specific notification to bring up the details pane of the selected item to determine how to remediate the notification.

Dashboard graphs and tables

The dashboard includes multiple graphs and tables that provide insights into the health of your environment.

Click to download a CSV file of the data represented in the graph or table

Click to expand the graph or table to full screen. When expanded, you can click the Esc key or to exit out of full screen.

Click the graph components or label names within the graph or tables to bring up the details page of the selected item.

The dashboard graphs and tables display information in the following categories.
  • Average site QPS—displays a list of sites and the average QPS passing through that site within the last 24 hours.
  • DRS activity per site—displays a list of DNS resolver services deployed from a selected site and statistics about the QPS per service. This includes the average QPS and maximum QPS hit by that DNS resolver service over the past 24 hours. You can change the selected site using the Site dropdown menu.
  • QPS activity—displays a chronological graph of QPS activity over the past 24 hours.
  • Top 10 queried domains—displays a list of the most queried domains over the past 24 hours.
