The first time you log into BlueCat Horizon, you log in as the root user. You can use this user to create users, groups, and roles that align with your business requirements. BlueCat Horizon is built around roles and permissions, allowing you to configure users and their access privileges as needed.
Before creating users, we recommend creating roles, which comprise permissions. Then you can assign these roles to groups and add users as members to the groups. Users will inherit the roles and permissions assigned to their groups.
1. Create roles
Next, create roles that you can then assign to your groups. These roles define what system objects users in a group have permission to access. The platform comes with several built-in roles, but also lets you create roles to meet your specific needs.
To create roles:
- Navigate to .
- Select New.
- Enter a Name for the new role and a Description.
- Select Create.
- The new role is added to the Roles list. Select the role in the list to navigate to its details page.
- On the Permissions tab, select Update to configure its permissions.
- In the dialog, configure the permissions as needed.
- To configure platform permissions, expand the
Platform section by selecting the downward arrow
on the right.
To configure application permissions, for example, permissions in DDI orchestrator, expand the application's section by selecting the downward arrow on the right.
- Permissions are organized by scope, for example, Connections, Audit logs, etc. Use the downward arrows on the left to expand scopes.
- Select the permission(s) you want to configure by using the Unset all, Deny all, or Allow all options to apply the rule. You can also apply one of these rules to entire scope of permissions, for example, Deny all for all Devices permissions.
- To configure platform permissions, expand the
Platform section by selecting the downward arrow
on the right.
- Select Update.
For more information about roles, refer to the Roles section of the BlueCat Horizon User Guide.

group. A list of roles will populate the dropdown. Select the role(s) you want
