Containers are used to organize and group networks and DHCP scopes, providing a hierarchical structure to make managing your networks easier. Within a container, you can define address ranges and scopes, and set privileges that apply to the contained ranges and scopes through access inheritance settings.
Unlike networks and DHCP scopes, you cannot allocate IP addresses from containers unless you have enabled this functionality in the IPAM section of the system settings.
You can create containers from scratch, but also by converting an existing network or subnet into a container, or vice versa.
To create a container:
- On the IPAM page, select the Create button in the task bar.
- Use the dropdown to select Container.
- In the wizard, enter a Network in the provided field. The
range of the network's usable IP addresses will be displayed.
Select Next.
- Enter a Name for the container and an optional Description.
- Set any custom properties required by your system setup. Then select Next.
- Add the container to a folder, if desired. Then select Next.
- Select Finish.
To create a container by converting a network or subnet:
- In the list on the Networks tab of the IPAM page, select the range(s) you want to convert into a container.
- Use either the Action or ellipses in the row to select Convert to container.
