In DDI orchestrator, you can create a reverse zone for a particular range (both IPv4 and IPv6) or DHCP scope. A reverse zone allows you to map a known IP address to a domain. Reverse zone lookups are often used by email servers to validate that an email came from a valid server.

To create a reverse zone:

  1. In the list on the Networks tab of the IPAM page, select the range or DHCP scope for which you want to create a reverse zone.
  2. Use either the Action or ellipses in the row to select Create reverse zone.
  3. In the dialog, select a View for the new zone. Then select Next.
  4. In the Primary service step, select a primary DNS server on which to create the zone.

  5. (Optional) In the Redundancy step, select the secondary servers on which to create a read-only copy of the zone.
  6. (Optional) In the Custom properties step, set custom property values for the zone, if needed.
  7. (Optional) In the Folders step, select a folder from the list to add the zone to one of the existing folders in DDI orchestrator.
  8. In the Summary step, review the zone configuration. The name of the reverse zone includes the suffix addr.arpa.
  9. If you want to update the reverse records immediately, check the Update reverse records after creating checkbox.
  10. Select Create.

After the reverse zone is created, you can view and manage it from the DNS page.

Whenever a reverse lookup occurs, a PTR record is created that points to the domain name for the IP address. In DDI orchestrator, you can run a task to update the DNS records in the corresponding reverse zone.
