Use the General system settings to specify the following:

  • Rules to determine when an IP address is considered as being "in use"

Determine address usage

Control how IP addresses are identified as being in use. By default, these settings are all selected. To specify which rules should be applied to IP addresses and get a more granular picture of where the usage is occurring, select/clear one or more of the following checkboxes:

Note: These conditions only apply to statically assigned IP addresses. Within DHCP address pools, an IP address is only considered to be in use if there is a DHCP lease or DHCP reservation associated with it.
  • A custom property is set for the IP address — Select one or more of the displayed custom properties.
  • A DNS address record (A / AAAA) exists for the IP address
  • The IP address has been claimed
  • The IP address has been seen on the network in the last (# of days) — If you select this option, enter the number of days in the provided field.
