BlueCat Horizon

BlueCat Horizon and its applications are licensed features and sold in bundles and as add-ons. BlueCat Horizon is licensed based on the number of active IP addresses. BlueCat Horizon considers an IP address to be active when:

  1. There is a DNS record assigned to the IP address (data from the DNS server).
  2. There is an active lease in a DHCP pool. This will cause usage to fluctuate in the license count.
  3. There is a DHCP reservation configured for the IP address.
  4. The IP address has been assigned as Static.
  5. Discovery is enabled and the IP address has been discovered as active within the last 30 days.

When your licenses are active, you can view and manage all of the services provided by the platform and its applications from the Licenses page.

The Licenses page. A license for Horizon DDI orchestrator is displayed, along with a visualization of License usage.

License states

Licenses cycle through five states:

  1. Active: The license is valid. You have full read/write access and feature access based on your active license.
  2. Expired: The license has reached its expiration date. In first 90 days after expiration, the license is in a grace period during which you retain full read/write access with no feature restrictions. BlueCat Horizon displays warnings and license renewal notifications on the platform to remind you that your license is expired and you need to renew it to continue using the application(s).
  3. Disabled: If you do not renew your license within ninety (90) days after your its expiration date, your tenant is marked as Disabled. All user access—including both the UI and API—are disabled.
Warning: The Disabled state may incur network downtime.
After thirty (30) days in a Disabled state, the connection between the cloud and network will be severed. Your data will be retained in cold storage.
Important: Reinstatement of your license(s) requires the payment of a reinstatement fee.

Renewal notifications

Before your license(s) expire(s), BlueCat Horizon will send automated notifications as reminders to renew.

Renewal reminders are displayed in BlueCat Horizon at the following points in time:

  • Thirty (30) days before the expiration date
  • On the expiration date
  • Every day after the expiration until ninety (90) days have passed and the license state changes to Disabled

For information about license renewal, refer to Renewing licenses.
