Proactive monitoring of your system resources (such as CPU, disk, memory, etc.) through a Datadog agent is available as an optional feature.

The Datadog agent is software that can run on your LiveAssurance server to collect metrics from the services running on your server. The collected metrics are then uploaded automatically to the LiveAssurance Dashboard in Datadog and stored on Datadog's own infrastructure. For more details on Datadog agents, refer to the Datadog documentation.

The feature is disabled by default; contact BlueCat Customer Care if you wish to set up a Datadog agent on your LiveAssurance server.

How to enable or disable Datadog

Work with BlueCat Customer Care to set up a Datadog agent on your LiveAssurance server.

The agent can be set up by running imanage and then typing 9 to select the option for setting up the Datadog integration. However, you must contact BlueCat Customer Care to recieve a unique API key that is required during setup.

If you no longer wish to run the Datadog agent, you can disable it by running the following command from your LiveAssurance server:

sudo apt remove datadog-agent -y

How it works

Once enabled, the Datadog agent runs on your LiveAssurance server. This agent collects metrics at regular intervals from the services running on your server. The agent then automatically uploads the metrics to the LiveAssurance Datadog dashboard to enable proactive monitoring. Access to the Dashboard is restricted to a select group of BlueCat employees and secured via multi-factor authenticaton (MFA). The metrics are monitored to ensure that the services operate efficiently and issues are identified and resolved proactively.
Note: No confidential information (such as IP addresses, credentials) is collected by the Datadog agent.

What metrics are collected

The Datadog agent collects the following types of metrics. Work with BlueCat Customer Care to customize the list of metrics collected based on your requirements.

  • Generic metrics—System-wide metrics.

    Example: dns.response_time, jvm.thread_count, postgresql.connections, system.disk.in_use

  • Java Management Extensions (JMX) metrics—Metrics specific to the Java-based services of LiveAssurance.

    Example: collector.metric_throughput, server.metric_throughput, server.timeseriesstore.inmemorysnapshotsdao.select_snapshots_throughput
