After you acquire a new update or patch file from BlueCat, you can add it to BlueCat Server Update Services (BSUS) from the Server Updates tab. Doing so uploads it from your system into BSUS's database.
Adding a new update file to BSUS only makes it available for installation on DNS/DHCP servers. Newly-added update files are neither staged nor installed on any servers, nor on the machine running BSUS itself.
By default, newly-added update files are disabled (via the Enabled toggle) and cannot be applied to servers, nor can they be added to Staged or Scheduled Updates. This helps prevent new patches from being accidentally selected and applied before they can be evaluated for their potential impact on a system. Update files can be enabled by an administrator (or someone with appropriate administrator permissions).
-
In the BSUS workflow, click the Server Updates tab.
-
Click the Available Updates tab.
-
Click the Upload button (
). The first Upload window appears.
-
In the first Upload window, enter the following information:
-
Click Browse to locate the update file that you are uploading.
-
Patch MD5: Enter the MD5 checksum value of the update file. You can retrieve this value by running an MD5 check on the file locally or by retrieving the MD5 check from the announcement article in the BlueCat Care Portal.
The checksum value lets BSUS verify that the complete file was downloaded successfully and without errors.
When you're done, click Upload. During the upload process, the screen is grayed out and an activity icon appears on the screen.
Attention: Do not close the window while the upload is in progress. The next window appears when the update file is successfully uploaded. -
-
In the next Upload window, do the following:
- In Name, optionally change the name of the update to something more meaningful.
-
In Type, select the type of update that you are uploading (Patch or Upgrade).
Look at the release notes for the patch to determine what type of upgrade it is.
-
In Release Date, select the date that the update file was published. This helps you organize files and updates based on the update release date.
When you're done, click Save.
-
All uploaded updates appear in the Available Updates tab.
Note: By default, newly-added updates are made unavailable for use. To make an update available for staging and application to DNS/DHCP Servers, click the Enable toggle in the patch file's row within the Available Updates table.
