The Access Right Settings window lets you manage access rights for BSUS features and functionality for Address Manager user groups. Users need these access rights to plan and make changes to scheduled updates. While you add access rights to BSUS within BSUS, you must create the user groups in Address Manager first.

There are two general types of BSUS user groups:

  • The BSUS Administrator group is a single group that has administrator rights over all BSUS features and update batches. You specify the Address Manager user group to use as the BSUS Administrator group in the BSUS_ADMIN_GROUP environment variable when installing BSUS. (See Installing BlueCat Server Update Services.)

The BSUS Administrator group is effectively assigned to all Server Batches.

  • Non-Admin BSUS groups are non-administrator groups that are also given the rights to work with Server Batches. However, Non-admin BSUS groups can work only with batches specifically assigned to that group.

Note: In order for BSUS to manage access rights to user groups, you must set up the BsusPermission UDF in Address Manager. For more details, see Setting up the BsusPermission UDF in Address Manager.

BSUS access rights let users in those user groups to do the following:

  • View assigned batches

  • View enabled patches and updates

  • Apply, Schedule, and Stage updates to assigned Server Batches.

  • Modify and Delete scheduled updates for assigned Server Batches.

  • View all events in the Event List tab

  • View all preference settings in the Administration tab

  • Work with Configuration templates in the following manner:

    • Can view and download configuration templates attached only to assigned Server Batches.

    • Can assign a template to a server (not to a Server Batch)

    • Can check the status, view differences and force server compliance with the assigned template.
