When you prepare an update to be applied at a later date and time, those updates appear in the Planned Updates page. You set up a set of update files to run in sequence, specify which Server Batch to run it on, and whether the Server Batch's associated customization package should be run.

Note: While scheduled and staged updates appear in the Planned Updates tab, you initially create them from the Available Updates tab.

After you set up a planned update, BSUS automatically uploads (stages) those files to each DNS/DHCP server, ready to be run by the part of the BSUS application that lives on each server. By staging the files ahead of time, BSUS helps make sure that the update is applied on all servers at once.

  • If you set up the files as a Scheduled Update, BSUS will automatically apply the patch at a later specified date and time.
  • If you set up the files as an unscheduled Staged Update, you must trigger application of the patch manually. This is useful for system maintainers who want more control over the process.

The Planned Updates tab lists all scheduled, planned, and currently running update tasks. You can view any upcoming scheduled updates, staged updates, and view the deployment process of any update tasks that are currently running. You can also edit and delete scheduled updates, or apply staged updates.

Tip: If you prefer, you can stage the update files, then manually trigger application of the update rather than letting BSUS run it at a scheduled time. For more details, see Staging updates to be manually applied.
  • To view the Planned Updates tab, open the BlueCat Server Update Services UI, click Server Updates, then click the Planned Updates tab.
