When you want to prepare and schedule an update to manually apply at a later date and time, you create Staged Updates in the Planned Updates tab. The patch file will still be staged (that is, uploaded to each of the servers in the Server Batch). But the patch will only be applied when you decide to do so manually, from the BSUS workflow UI.

Note: Within the Planned Updates tab, the Upgrade Time shows only the time when the Server Batch was applied.

To stage an update to be manually triggered later:

  1. Go to the Available Updates page. (From BlueCat Server Update Services, click Server Updates, then click the Available Updates tab.)

  2. Select the checkbox for one or more update (patch) files.

If you haven't already done so, toggle the Enable checkbox for them on.

  3. Click the Settings button ( gear icon) and select Stage Updates. The first Stage Updates screen appears.

  4. In the first screen, under Select Batches, select the Server Batches to which you want to apply the patch.

When first setting up a Staged update, you can select multiple batches.

    When you're done, click Next.

  5. In the next screen, under Selected Patches, drag the names of updates to change the order in which updates are applied.

  6. When you're done, click Stage Updates. (To instead go back to the previous screen and select a different set of batches, click Previous.) The new update will appear in the Planned Updates tab, but with no displayed upgrade time.

BlueCat Server Update Services creates the staged update. You can view a list of scheduled and staged updates in the Planned Updates tab.
