Cloud Discovery & Visibility (CDV) can import data from and about Private and Public DNS zones within Microsoft Azure.

Address Manager supports the following DNS resource record types: SOA, A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, PTR, SRV, and TXT

The type of record that CDV creates for A and AAAA records depends on whether its IP address exists within an imported visual network from Azure.

  • If the IP address exists within an imported virtual network from Azure, CDV creates a Host record in Address Manager.

  • If the IP does not exist within an imported virtual network, CDV creates a Generic record in Address Manager.

When CDV imports private and public DNS zone data into Address Manager, they appear under the View for the appropriate configuration. CDV also imports DNS resource records created for that zone.

Private zones are imported as follows:

  • Private DNS zones with links to virtual networks are imported to the general Azure BAM Configuration.

  • Private DNS zones with no virtual network links are imported to the Azure Private DNS Zones (Not Linked) Configuration.

Example

The following illustrates a private DNS zone in Azure, with a set of resource records configured for that zone.

The following example illustrates how Azure resource record information from a private DNS zone appears in Address Manager.
