You can create a new Discovery from the Discovery page. When CDV runs a Discovery, it searches the specified network infrastructure for network resources and adds them to BlueCat Address Manager as resources. CDV can also automatically re-run discoveries at a specified interval.

Creating a Discovery creates both a Schedule manager (which will be displayed in the Discovery tab) and the Discovery job or jobs within that Schedule manager.

Tip: Visibility jobs continuously monitor a network for changes and automatically updates the corresponding Address Manager resources when a change is detected. The steps for creating a discovery and a visibility are identical, except for the selected Monitoring Options.

To create a new Discovery:

  1. If you haven't already done so, open the Create new discovery window. In Cloud Discovery & Visibility, click the Discovery tab, then click Create discovery.

  2. Select the platform of the network that you want to discover (Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure), then click Next.

  3. Select whether you want to use Basic setup or Advanced setup, then click Next.

Use Basic setup to let CDV specify default parameters for the discovery or visibility job. Use Advanced setup if you want to specify the discovery and visibility details yourself.

Note: For a full list of options that are included and not included (that is, not enabled) during Basic setup, see the following topics:
  4. In the Create new discovery window, fill in the credentials, Address Manager Configuration, and Discovery option details for the new job.

The specific details vary depending on the network platform. Typically, you must configure credentials for the account that CDV is to use during discovery; details of the desired discovery (when using Advanced Setup); and configuration options specific to the platform.

For more details on the settings in each tab, see the following topics:

  5. Within the Monitoring options tab, select Scheduled updates, then fill in the rest of the options as needed.

Doing so specifies that you will be creating a Discovery that either runs once, or that is fully re-run at a specified interval.

Note: Selecting Real time updates instead creates a Visibility job. For more details, see Creating a visibility manager and visibility jobs.

The specific options depend on the network infrastructure platform being discovered. For more details, see:

  6. When you're done, click Create new discovery.

CDV will create a Schedule manager for the discovery on the Discovery page, then add new discovery jobs to that Schedule manager. You can start the discovery at any time.
