The Discovery page displays a table of all configured Schedule managers, with all known details about Discovery jobs within those managers. You can manage Discoveries for every instance of Address Manager connected to the Gateway instance.

A Schedule Manager represents a Discovery and contains a collection of Discovery jobs. When you create a Discovery, CDV automatically creates a series of jobs. These jobs are managed automatically by the Schedule Manager during a Discovery, so you never have to manage them manually. Instead, you manage the single Schedule manager that contains those jobs. You can click on a job to give you more details about the job and the history of any discoveries that have been performed.

For more details about filtering and viewing the list of Schedule managers and Discovery jobs, see Searching, filtering, and viewing items in tables.

For more details about managing discoveries in the Discovery page, see Working with Schedule managers and discovery jobs.

Tip: You can quickly perform many activities on a single discovery in the list by clicking the action button (3 dots) of its entry in the far right column and choosing the desired action.

What jobs does a Schedule Manager contain?

A Schedule Manager often contains only one job. A Schedule Manager contains multiple jobs only when CDV needs to maintain certain jobs separately that are otherwise part of the same task (such as during Organization-level discovery and visibility).

The specific organization of jobs into Schedule managers depends on the infrastructure platform.

  • Amazon Web Platform (AWS): The organization of jobs into Schedule Manager depends on the AWS Regions that you specify in the Configuration settings. When you specify the regions in which discovery is to run, CDV creates a single Schedule Manager that contains a separate job for each region.

  • Google Cloud Platform (GCP): The jobs that a GCP Schedule Manager contains depend on whether or not you ran Discovery from the Organization level (that is, whether Discovery for Organization is selected in the GCP Service Account options).

    • If you run an Organization-level discovery job, the Schedule Manager that CDV creates will contain a separate job for each Project.

    • If you do not use Organization-level discovery, the Schedule Manager that CDV creates will contain only one job.

  • Microsoft Azure: The jobs that an Azure Schedule Manager contains depend on the subscription and/or resource groups that you specify in the Azure Credentials settings:

    • Discovery of a specific subscription with a specific resource group: CDV will create a single Schedule Manager that contains a single Discovery job.

    • Discovery of a specific subscription with all resource groups: CDV will create a single Schedule Manager that contains multiple Discovery jobs — a single Discovery job for each resource group.

    • Discovery of all subscriptions with all resource groups: CDV will create a single Schedule Manager that contains multiple Discovery jobs — a single Discovery job for each resource group within each subscription.

Note: If a Schedule Manager contains an AWS account, GCP project, or Azure subscription that is later deleted from AWS, jobs associated with those resources will be deactivated and flagged as Deactivated on the Discovery page. You can Terminate (delete) deactivated jobs or Schedule managers from the Discovery page. Or, you can reactivate those Schedule managers if those resources are later restored.
