After configuring and running discovery for a Microsoft Azure system, Cloud Discovery & Visibility (CDV) will Azure infrastructure data into Address Manager.

Within Address Manager, CDV also creates tags and tag groups for blocks and networks that it discovers to distinguish them from user-created resources. Azure Tag names and hierarchy are as follows:

  • CDV Directory (Tag group) > Microsoft Azure (Tag) > Subscription name (Tag) > Resource Group name (Tag)

Where "Subscription name" is the name of the Azure subscription under which the items were created, and "Resource Group name" is the name of the resource group where they were found.

Attention: If you update the name of a Configuration or View in Address Manager after you enable discovery and visibility jobs, CDV will no longer import Azure infrastructure changes into Address Manager. To import infrastructure changes into Address Manager with the changed configuration and view names, you must reconfigure the discovery and visibility jobs.

Tagged device resources

During discovery and visibility, CDV tags the items it finds: Blocks, networks, and device resources like virtual machines, load balancers, private endpoints, and Elastic Kubernetes Services (EKS) instances. These appear in Address Manager under the CDV Directory group, within their Azure Subscription and Azure Resource Group:
