You can force a state change in your high availability configuration in the event of maintenance, testing, or manually recovering from multiple failures.
- Log in to BlueCat Gateway on the target Active node.
- Under AVAILABLE ACTIONS, click .
- Click Force Active to change the node state to Active or click Force Passive to change the node state to Passive.
If the current state is Active, selecting Force Passive immediately changes the state to Passive. Heartbeat traffic stops from this node with no DNS record update. The highest-priority Passive node detects that there is no active server and changes to Active state.
If the current state is Passive, selecting Force Active causes a message to be sent from this node to other cluster nodes, asking them to release the Active state and change to Passive state. This node then changes to Active state without waiting for confirmation from other nodes.
If an active node is unreachable, but still active, selecting Force Active will result in two active servers. In this case, it is necessary to log in to BlueCat Gateway on the original active server and select the Force Passive action.
