Before you add configuration information in GSS, you must create a host record for the IP address that will be managed in GSS.

To create the host record:
  1. In the left navigation, click DNSTrafficSteering > Configure Traffic Steering.
  2. Within Enter App Name field, enter the name of the application that you would like to create. For example, dr-site.example.com.

If the application does not exist, an icon appears next to the field indicating so.

  3. Click Add. The Add Host Record page opens.
  4. Under Record Type, select DR Host.
  5. Under Production IP address, enter the IP address of the Production application. Click the + symbol to add another IP address.
  6. Under DR IP address, enter the IP address of the DR application. Click the + symbol to add another IP address.
  7. Click Add.
Note: When adding a DR Host record, the record works with special purpose region names: Switch, Production, and DR. These names are configured within the /bluecat_gateway/customizations/gss.ini under the DR_CONFIG section.

The affect_link setting within gss.ini indicates which shared search order link should be enabled or disabled to switch between Production and DR answers. This is used by the Switch Applications workflow.

For more information on the configurations within gss.ini, refer to Understanding the gss.ini settings.
