In the following section, three answer regions are configured: Production, DR, and Switch. Within the Shared Search Order, the links from regional client nodes to the Switch node have a cost value of 1. From the Switch node, the link to the Production node has a cost value of 1 and the link to the DR node has a cost value of 2.

The regional client nodes will update to the closest Production answer before the DR answer is used.



Configuring the DR Shared Search Order

To configure the shared search order:
  1. In the left navigation, click DNSTrafficSteering > Shared Search Order.
  2. Click Add to add a new shared search order.
  3. Under Name, enter the name of the search order.
  4. Under Node Name, select the search region node name and click + to add the node name.

    Add the regional, Switch, Production, and DR nodes.

    From the regional nodes, assign a cost value of 1 to the Switch node.

    From the Switch nodes, assign a cost value of 1 to the Production node and a cost value of 2 to the DR node.

  5. Click Save to save the setting.

Adding the DR Shared Search Order to the Answer

To add the DR search order to the answer:
  1. On the Traffic Steering page of the DR host record, select the Search Order tab.
  2. Click Configuration.
  3. Under Search Order Configuration, select the DR Shared Search Order that you created.
  4. Click + to add a search order.
  5. Click Save to save the setting.
