You can manage existing answers by using the Action icon on the Answers tab, or by clicking on existing answers to update the IP addresses and names.

Updating Answers

To update an Answer:
  1. On the Traffic Steering page, select the Answers tab.
  2. Under Answers, click the name of the answer to update.
  3. If you are changing the IP address, enter a new IP address.
  4. Click Add to add more IP addresses or click Remove to remove an existing IP address.
  5. If you are changing the name, enter the new answer name.
  6. Click Update.

If you are changing the region for an answer, you must delete the answer and add a new answer within the new region.

Deleting Answers



To delete an Answer:
  1. On the Traffic Steering page, select the Answers tab.
  2. Under Answers, select the checkbox next to one or more answers
  3. Click Action > Delete Selected to delete the answers.

Checking Answers

You can use the Check Now action to run a health check of the selected answer.

GSS runs the health check in the currently selected GSS region. If you have multiple GSS regions defined, you can use the Select Health Check Region icon to select a different GSS region before performing the Check Now action.
Note: You must configure the Health Check settings before using this action. For more information, refer to Configuring the GSS Health Check.


To check an Answer:
  1. On the Traffic Steering page, select the Answers tab.
  2. Under Answers, select the checkbox next to one or more answers
  3. Click Action > Check Now to check the health of the answers.

The active GSS in the selected health check region performs a check of the selected answer and displays the status in the Status column.

Note: To perform health checks in health check regions outside of the access GSS application, each health check region must have a DNS record active.<region>.status.gss.bluecat pointing to a GSS instance in that region. This record is managed automatically by GSS when the High Availability feature is enabled.

Force Up Answers

You can use the Force Up action to force the selected answers to become active



To force up an Answer:
  1. On the Traffic Steering page, select the Answers tab.
  2. Under Answers, select the checkbox next to one or more answers
  3. Click Action > Force Up to force the answers to become active.

The Force Up action updates answers in all health check regions.

Force Down Answers

You can use the Force Down action to force the selected answers to become inactive



To force down an Answer:
  1. On the Traffic Steering page, select the Answers tab.
  2. Under Answers, select the checkbox next to one or more answers
  3. Click Action > Force Down to force the answers to become inactive.

The Force Down action updates answers in all health check regions.

Set to Auto Answers

You can use the Set to Auto action to update the status of the answer to active or inactive depending on the health check results.
Note: You must configure the Health Check settings before using this action. For more information, refer to Configuring the GSS Health Check.


To set to auto Answer:
  1. On the Traffic Steering page, select the Answers tab.
  2. Under Answers, select the checkbox next to one or more answers
  3. Click Action > Set Auto to force the answers to become inactive or active depending on the health check results.

Once you configure the Set to Auto action, the value Auto appears in the Config column.
