Group engines added to the Engines View have the following benefits over non-group engines:
  • When a group engine is added in Engines View, the LiveWire control point will automatically be added to the Engines View of the group engine, establishing bi-directional communication.
  • A heartbeat message is sent between group engine members every 10 minutes. This ensures the following:
    • The heartbeat message informs each group engine that the other is reachable. This is displayed in the heartbeat status icon.
    • Information is exchanged between group engines during the heartbeat to ensure information is kept up-to-date in the Engines View for both group engines.
  • When a group engine is removed from either Engines View, the corresponding group engine will be removed from the other Engines View upon the next, and final, heartbeat.
Note: Group engines are only visible and configurable by users that have the Configure Group Engines ACL.
To create a LiveWire group engine, you must perform the following:
  1. Configure the LiveWire engine with an Authentication Group Secret. For more information, refer to Configuring the LiveWire Authentication Group Secret on the LiveWire host.
  2. Add the LiveWire engine to the LiveWire Engines View and select the Connect with an authentication group connection option. For more information, refer to Adding LiveWire engines to the Engines View.
