Crossover High Availability (xHA) providers disaster recovery through the use of redundant appliances. xHA connects two appliances through a dedicated link, replicating and synchronizing service state changes, such as DNS record changes or DHCP lease allocations. Thus, the two appliances can be seamlessly managed as one entity. If one of the appliances fails for any reason, the other takes its places and continues providing services.

Important: xHA is supported on pairs of BlueCat appliances or pairs of BlueCat virtual machines. If the appliances are hardware appliances, xHA is only supported if both appliances have the same BDDS hardware profile. xHA is NOT supported on mixed pairs of physical appliances and virtual machines.

The xHA cluster will use the IP addressess configured on the appliance you designate as the active node. When you create an xHA cluster, you need to select new node-specific addresses, so that the currently active node can be reached even when the cluster has failed over to the passive node.

Before creating an xHA cluster, please refer to the Prerequisites for xHA.

Note: xHA cannot be used on an appliance with anycast, as they are mutually exclusive functionalities.
