Service Point v3.x.x

By configuring a BlueCat Edge service point on a supported DNS/DHCP Server appliance, you can enable your existing DNS/DHCP Server hardware to streamline network operations and take advantage of enhanced DNS, providing better visibility and control. Service point functionality (such as policy application, threat evaluation, and DNS event logging) can all be applied to the DNS client traffic directed to the service point's IPv4 address.

Prerequisites

Before configuring a service point on a DNS/DHCP Server, you must meet the following requirements:
  • You have a supported DNS/DHCP Server appliance running version 9.2.0 or greater.
  • The DNS/DHCP Server is managed by Address Manager.
  • The DNS/DHCP Server can successfully resolve and connect to the BlueCat Edge cloud endpoints. To ensure connectivity to the BlueCat Edge Cloud, you must configure DNS/DHCP Server with a nameserver that can resolve the CNAME records and external endpoints listed in the Cloud access requirements.
  • Ensure that you accurately configure the date and time on the DNS/DHCP Server.
Note: If there is an issue with the time synchronization and the time on the DNS/DHCP Server is offset by more than 5 minutes, the following occur:
    • The service point will not initialize

      OR

    • The service point status will turn to "BAD" since the activity-logging-service also inherits this status.
  • If Anycast is required, the DNS/DHCP Server must be associated with at least one DNS role.
  • The DNS/DHCP Server is one of the following supported hardware appliances:
    • BlueCat Generation 4 Appliances (BDDS-50 and higher)
    • BlueCat Generation 3 Appliances (BDDS-60 and higher)

For more information on deploying a service point on a DNS/DHCP Server, refer to the 'BlueCat Edge service point on DNS/DHCP Server' section of the Address Manager Administration Guide.

Attention: Once you have deployed a service point, use the service point diagnostics API to verify that the service point has successfully registered. The registrationStatus field within the service point diagnostics API response returns a value of SUCCESSFUL when the service point has successfully registered with the BlueCat Edge Cloud. If the value is not SUCCESSFUL, this may indicate that there is an issue with the service point deployment and the service point may not operate as intended.

For more information on the service point diagnostics API, refer to Service point diagnostics API.
