The Approval managed objects tab allows administrators to view and manage (add, edit, and delete) all objects that are designated as approval managed. This designation means that if a user adds, edits, or deletes such objects (zones, networks, or their child objects), an approval request is created. The changes are applied to these objects only after an administrator or assigned approver approves the request.

For details on the approval lifecycle, refer to Approval lifecycle overview.

The approval-managed objects table displays the following details:

Field Description
Object name Name of the approval-managed object.
Object ID Unique ID of the approval-managed object.
Object path Full path where the approval-managed object is located. This path includes the name of the approval-managed object (zone or network), in addition to the configuration and view (if any) to which the object belongs.

The path is displayed in the format: /configuration/view/zone or network

Approver Names of the users assigned as the approvers for the object. An approval-managed object can have one or more approvers assigned.
Protection Status Protection status of the approval-managed object: displays Manual if protection was manually set, and Automatic if the protection was inherited from the parent.
Note: Child objects with protection that was manually set are not affected by changes to the parent's protection.
Source of Inheritance Displays the name of the parent from which the protection was inherited, in case the protection was automatically inherited. Displays Manual if protection was manually set.
Action icon buttons: Edit and Delete
  • Administrators can edit an approval-managed object by selecting its corresponding Edit icon.
Note: The inheritance setting (that is, the Enable object child protection inheritance checkbox) cannot be modified after it is configured. To modify the inheritance setting, the approval-managed object must be deleted from the Approval managed objects list, and re-created with the new setting.
  • Administrators can remove an approval-managed object from the approver-managed objects list by selecting its corresponding Delete icon.

Add approval-managed objects

To add an approval-managed object, select Add object. The Add approval managed object window opens, displaying the following options:
Field Description
Configuration Select a configuration that contains the zone or network you want to designate as approval managed.
View Select a view that contains the zone or network you want to designate as approval managed.
Zone/Network Based on your requirements, select either Zone or Network.
Search object Search and select the specific zone or network you want to designate as approval managed.
Approver From the drop-down list, select one or more approvers for the specific zone or network.
Enable object child protection inheritance This checkbox is displayed only for approval-managed zones.
  • If enabled, the parent zone's protection settings will automatically apply to its direct child objects (both, current and future). This means that direct child objects automatically inherit the parent's approval requirements. In nested hierarchies, the child object inherits protection from a grandparent object only if the intermediate parent is protected with inheritance enabled.
  • If disabled, only the parent object is protected while existing child objects retain their current protection state. New child objects will not automatically inherit protection from the parent.
Note:
  • Inherited protection for child objects can only be removed by removing protection from the parent object. Protection can be removed from a parent object with inheritance enabled only when no open approval requests exist for the parent and its child objects. Once protection for a parent object is removed, inherited protection for child objects is automatically removed. However, child objects with protection that was manually set will retain their protection.
