This section explains how to install a virtual machine in a VMware ESXi environment for ISO installation.

Upload the ISO image to a target volume storage. For more information, refer to VMware documentation.

  1. Click a resource pool. From the File menu, select New Virtual Machine.
  2. Select Create a new virtual machine from the creation type menu.
  3. Enter a unique name and select a location for the virtual machine.
  4. Select the destination compute resource.
  5. Select the storage for the configuration and disk files.
  6. Select compatibility for the virtual machine. Choose the default value from the Compatible with drop-down menu.
  7. Select a guest OS to run on the virtual machine. Choose Linux from the Guest OS Family drop-down menu and Debian GNU/Linux 9 (64-bit) from the Guest OS Version drop-down menu.
  8. Configure the hardware settings for the virtual machine. Depending on your license, refer to the System requirements section to select the required CPU, memory, and network adapter infrastructure. For the hard drive storage, BlueCat recommends 1 TB of disk space. If you need more storage, contact BlueCat Customer Care. You also need to add a serial port for the virtual machine.
    1. Click Add New Device.
    2. Choose Serial Port from the drop-down menu.
The New Serial Port field appears on the table.
    3. Select the Use physical serial port option from the drop-down menu.
  9. Review your configuration and click Finish.
  10. Edit the virtual machine settings so that its virtual CD/DVD device is configured to use the ISO image (instead of the physical CD/DVD drive).
    1. Select the tab for the virtual machine you just created.
    2. Click Edit virtual machine settings.
    3. On the Hardware tab, select CD/DVD drive. On the right side:
      1. Select Connect at power on.
      2. Select Use ISO image file.
      3. Click Browse and navigate to your saved ISO image file.
  11. Power on the virtual machine.
The virtual machine boots from the ISO image.
  12. Follow the instructions in the installation wizard to complete the BAM or BDDS installation.
Once you have successfully installed BAM or BDDS, you need to configure additional settings. For more information, refer to Configuring VMs.
