To install VMs in KVM using VMM:
- Copy your downloaded tarball and its associated MD5 file to the KVM host machine, and check if the archives are OK.
- Run the tar -xzf command to unpackage your virtual machine disk image (the qcow2 file), then unpackage the XML configuration file.

Start VMM.
VMM needs to be configured to be run using sudo command.
- Select File > Create a new virtual machine to install your BlueCat VM as a guest.
- In the Name field, enter a name for the VM you are installing then select the method to install the operating system. Click Forward.
- Click Browse to specify the full path to the disk image. Choose an operating system and version from the OS type and Version drop-down menus, then click Forward.

Choose the size of the memory that you want to use and select the number of
CPUs from the Memory (RAM) and
CPUs fields, then click
Forward.
Memory settings are dictated by your respective Address Manager and DNS/DHCP Server license(s).

Under Advanced options, set the following options, then
click Finish.
- Networking type—select the network from the drop-down menu to use for the VM. This network will be mapped to the Management interface (eth0).
- Set a fixed MAC address—select this option to set the fixed MAC address. Enter the MAC address you want to use in the field.
- Virt Type—select kvm from the drop-down list.
- Architecture—select the operating system architecture.
- The VM installation is complete and the guest VM will run.
This completes the installation of your virtual machine in a KVM environment using
VMM.
